Going through the editorial process on any manuscript is stressful. But when I hand over my baby to an editor, I expect constructive feedback that will strengthen the quality of my story. I want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly along with realistic suggestions for improvements (especially if I’m paying for it)! Julie Sturgeon delivers on that value proposition. Her feedback is detailed but not nitpicky. She explains her rationale for suggested edits and offers guidance on how to achieve the end goal. And she is brutally honest, a trait that is essential in the editing process. What I really valued while working with Julie was her willingness to talk through my reactions to her suggestions, and my vision for addressing the necessary changes BEFORE I wrote them. This avoided unnecessary back and forth / rewrites. In the end, I rewrote more than a handful of chapters in my manuscript to address her feedback, but the book still felt like it was mine … just a much better version than I started with! I can highly recommend Julie’s services. Her advice is worth every cent.
